Improvements - What Rhymes With

As you can tell - I've been working extremely hard on the rhyming dictionary you've found yourself using. If you don't know me yet, I'm James Cordeiro - the developer and owner of What Rhymes With. I've been doing everything I can to improve this website for you - and will continue to do so until it is complete. You may have reached this page by searching for more than 10 words in the enhanced rhyming form, if so - please try to shorten your phrase search and try again. The amount of improvements is simply tremendous and I scratch something new off each and every week. The next update, will include the 5 terabytes worth of sentences, paragraphs and words to include in your rhyming. This will also be combined with the mobile friendly version and the new iOS & Android mobile apps currently in development. Of course, all of this data will remain free for as loong as costs are relative to income covering those costs.

Every dictionary, every encyclopedia all overcome revisions, updates and improvements. My website is no different. Each improvement is based on user suggestions, language and rhyming, forums and users just like you. I am destined to make this Rhyming Dictionary become a great free online tool resource for rhymes, poetry (poems), articles, books and other rhyme related services.

Without you, I can't improve this website without my own bias uses. Below are all the suggestions I've received and I'm implementing. Please don't forget this is basically a non-profit website and I seriously need donations to continue. If you are a company, advertising helps me cover costs just like a donation. I will be glad to accommodate your language service or product to my viewers.

• Words not appearing correctly. Example: A.D. for Anno Domini abbreviation is appearing as Ad instead.
• Order results by syllables.
• Order rhyme results by length.
• Order rhyme results by letter.
• Change order of rhymes by one or two words.
• Order by the rhyme type on main rhyme results pages.
• Arrange rhyme results by the votes and comments.
• Grammer - Ever wished you could write with excellent grammer? Me too! And I'm nearing completion of this unique tool. Look out world - proper grammer is on it's way on the only rhyming dictionary with complete grammer check.
• Assonance Rhymes - In progress - completed, not live.
• LYRICS - I'm working extremely hard on this process. Currenly, everytime you search a word - you can find lyrics that contain that word. However, I need to orginize the lyrics database by category among other improvements. Also, my lyrics database is extremely lacking with only 100,000 lyrics. I also need to ensure that no copyright issues are violated.
• Complete Pronuniciation - Text and Audio Upload. This will allow you to analyze whether a word you are about to use for a rhyme, poem or other is exactly the sound you are searching for. (Cost Involved)
• Part-Of-Speech labels. This is such a great idea which was submitted by our first major suggestion. By understanding a words part-of-speech you are sure not to use the word in a rhyme incorrectly.
• Varient spellings - known to effect assonant, consonant and eye rhymes. Varient spellings are words with other spellings such as color / colour. Same word, different spelling which will connect to our etymology and restrictive labels.
• Etymology - knowing history of words is great for knowledge and language.
• Homographs - spelled alike, yet different words with different meanings and origins.
• Filter by criteria (ex. find all words ending in -al, but also filter just the two-syllable ones) - Donations required to cover improvement.
• Count letters in words.
• Find by letters in a word.
• Count number of consonants in a word.
• Find by number of consonants in a word.
• Count number of vowels in a word
• Inflected forms of the word.
• Homonym, Synonyms, Antonyms - for rhyming purposes, these are exponential to great rhymes.
• Count syllables in the word.
• Find by number of syllables in a word.
• Idiom - english and other languages (Volunteers Needed).
• Charts and Labels for categorized words such as horse. Ex. rein, saddle, hames, crupper, girth, bridle, bit, collar, trace or tug. and the Abacus which surely needs an image to explain for rhyming purposes.
• Find words starting with a single letter.
• Define the word searched. *beta*
• Restrictive labels - ex. informal, offensive, slang, derogatory, dialect, vulgar, poetic, archaic, historical, obsolete, trademark, other languages, country, field labels and more.
• Vote rhymes.
• Vote rhyme type.
• Find by rhyme type.
• Vote rhyme scheme.
• Find by rhyme scheme.
• Find words that sound similar.
• Find words that are pronounced similar.
• Find similar text.
• Rhyme phrases (more than one word)
• Membership for poetry, articles and rhyming. - Donations required to cover improvement.
• Writers forum. - Donations required to cover improvement.
• Poetry and rhyming books.
• Homographs - spelled alike, yet different words with different meanings and origins.
• Poetry competition is complete. The next website update will allow all members to upload, write, and add their poems.

More improvements to come will be references to both the Guide to Grammar and Writing and Principles of Composition. We are looking for volunteers at this time, however, not necessary. We believe an understanding for this grammer will be greatly useful to rhyming and poetry.

Syllable Count For Rhymes

A syllable is a basic unit of written and spoken language. It is a unit consisting of uninterrupted sound that can be used to make up words.

Example: hotel has two syllables: ho and tel.

On every word found in our dictionary of rhymes will indicated the syllables counted. Our counter is not entirely accurate due to the numerous syllabic anomalies found within the English language (e.g., parted, priest, scariest, wished).

Six Kinds of Syllables

1. Closed Syllables: One and only one vowel, and it ends in a consonant. Example: in, ask, truck, sock, stretch, twelfth, and on.
2. Open Syllables: An open syllable has one and only one vowel, and that vowel occurs at the end of the syllable. Example: no, she, and spry.
3. Silent-E Syllables: Ends in an e, has one and only one consonant before that e, and has one and only one vowel before that consonant. Examples include ate, ice, tune, slope, and these.
4. Vowel Combination Syllables: A cluster of two or three vowels or a vowel-consonant unit with a sound or sounds particular to that unit. Example: rain, day, see, veil, pie, piece, cue, and true.
5. Vowel-R Syllables: Includes one and only one vowel followed by an r, or one vowel followed by an r which is followed by a silent e, or a vowel combination followed by an r. Example: car, or, care, and air.
6. Consonant-L-E Syllables: A consonant is followed by le. The vowel sound in these syllables is the schwa sound that occurs before the "l". Example: -ble, -cle, -dle, -fle, and -gle.
